Thousands of Audi Parts and Accessories In Stock
Owners the world over have made Audi a popular German car maker and the market for Audi parts and accessories has never been better. However for much of its history, the Audi was not the Audi.
Audi has its roots in a company called Horch, a luxury car manufacturer founded in 1899. Its founder, August Horch, was forced out and formed a new company but wasn't allowed to use his name on the cars. The son of a colleague suggested that, since Horch means "hark" or "listen" in German they should use the Latin equivalent which is "Audi".
Audi later merged with Horch, DKW and Wanderer to become Auto Union. The four-ring logo on Audi parts and accessories represents the four Auto Union companies.
Like all German automakers, Auto Union came out of World War II with a shaky future. The factories were bombed and many of their facilities were in what would become East Germany. A new Auto Union was launched in Ingolstadt, selling cars under the DKW label.
Finally the company was bought by Volkswagen in 1964. At this time cars were transitioning from two-stroke to four-stroke engines. Since DKW was strongly associated with two-stroke engines, Volkswagen relaunched the brand as Audi. Parts and accessories were rebranded as well and the company as we know it was born.
Audi predicts they will sell over one million cars in 2008 and the demand for Audi parts and accessories continues to rise.
