All components in your Anti lock brake system are critical. Whether you have a bad ABS Sensor, a bad ABS Control Unit, or a bad ABS Hydro Unit, these all need to be checked and replaced immediately. A bad or malfunctioning ABS sensor will cause your car to misread the wheel speed at a particular wheel, and cause the ABS system to not engage properly when needed. These sensors can be tested fairly easily with and OHM meter, but depending on the year of your BMW, you can also pull the code info from the ECU.

ABS sensors are typically a very easy part to replace. They are typically held in place at the wheel hub by a bolt, and they fit into a slot or hole in the wheel hub assembly. Then there is a wire that runs to a junction under the wheel well. Just simply unplug the old wire and replace it with the new one.
